When something is discounted, the perception is that it is a cheap and inadequate product. So instead of the home business owner bringing in new customers, they go elsewhere in search of a 'better product.'

Here is an illustration to further explain... If you have two identical products, let's say they are two laptops of the exact same brand, model and newness. One of the laptops is priced at $1,200. The other one is priced at $400.

What would you be thinking? Would you wonder what's wrong with the second one since it is priced so low? That's the way most people think. Although you may like the fact that you can buy the other laptop for a lower amount, you would probably be reluctant to actually go through with the sale.

The first laptop is for sale by a retailer. So that store wants the highest amount for it. The second identical laptop is being sold by a wealthy private owner who has inherited it. The heiress does not need the money and would have just given it away for free. But she instead decided to take a small amount from the sale.

But in both cases, it is all about perception. The $1,200 laptop is perceived as more valuable because of its price. While the $400 laptop is considered inferior simply because it comes with a much lower price tag. The same is true with the products and services you offer through your home based business.

You can choose between having cheap products or having valuable ones. 'Cheap' and 'value' are two different things. While it is true that a product can be cheap and have value, not all products that have value are cheap.

A value is subjective to the buyer's needs. The term "cheap," on the other hand, is relative to one's wealth. In reality, the most loyal customers are the ones who receive the most value. People have to find value in a product or service.
