So, why have silicone baking mats become more and more popular as a staple bakeware or cookware in the food industry? Why have they become a necessity for most food industry practitioners? Are these mats safe for cooking and baking?

Silicone baking mats are made up of woven glasses that are coated with food-standard silicone. These baking mats are used daily by professional bakers because the sheets offer you a multi-purpose use for preparing, cooking (in this case, baking), as well as heating of food.

It is also very easy to be cleaned, which is done by wiping cloth dampened with hot water and mild dishwashing soap. These baking sheets can and would also replace the traditional parchment paper, and can withstand temperature of as high as 480 degrees Fahrenheit since they are heat-resistant. These baking sheets, too, are non-stick; therefore, no extra greasing is necessary.

Some baking sheets which measure a mere 11.6'' x 16.5'' will turn your pan into a non-stick surface which means you will not have to put oil, butter or use your PAM spray over it. This is so much better when working with sticky food products, like your gooey dough for your drop or spooned cookies, a taffy or caramel for your candied goods, or anything that requires baking and mats.

The use of silicone baking mats will save you a lot of time in cleaning since nothing ever sticks to these. Also note that it never needs to be greased, therefore saving not only your time but your money as well. It is also environment-friendly since it means less wastage.

Health concerns are also given much significance as this conforms to certain food regulations and can be used in varying temperatures without the fear of rupture or tearing.

A silicone baking mat may seem like the best solution to avoid all that extra grease, but we should still keep in mind that certain chemicals that bond with it can be a little harmful to one's health. Sometimes, a little grease is better than risky chemicals.
