If you create a business and marketing plan, you'll be forced to include business goals. How in-depth you make this is your decision, but if you're serious about business you'll be more professional. Writing down the goals you've put in place for yourself forces yourself to be accountable. It can also help you stay focused, particularly if you keep that list of goals somewhere visible. If you want to give yourself as much edge as possible, then always write it down even it's just creating a digital document.

You need to be good at promoting yourself and your blog because nobody, particularly if you are just getting started, is going to do this for you. How you approach this aspect of your business is something we cannot tell you to do because it's up to you. If you only take away one thing from this article, you need to generate traffic that is targeted and from your audience.
