Both countries significantly exceed the number of deer antlers produced in other developed countries such as the United States, Russia, and Canada.

Although the U.S. and Canada produce the least amount of deer antler a year, their antlers are the most preferred by velvet producers due to their quality features.

In Asia, sliced pieces of the antlers are being sold in traditional drugstores. They are then boiled together with other herbs and consumed as tea. In the west, the antlers are dried and turned into powder. They are then put in a capsule and consumed as a dietary supplement. People taking deer antler velvet as a dietary supplement report great benefits from taking it. The capsule form became the topic of a lot of controversies and discussions as to whether these supplements can really enhance the performance of some athletes. Today, many other forms of deer antler velvet are being sold, with the liquid spray form being the most widely known .
