Therapists attribute this therapeutic effect to the essential oil's ability to stimulate the part of the brain responsible for the well being of an individual.

In cosmetic products, it is believe to treat dry skin, reduce scars and stretch marks and delay the signs of aging. It is also mixed with carrier oil during direct skin application. It can also be placed in a diffuser or vaporizer for inhalation.

Precautionary Measures of Using Frankincense

Frankincense essential oils, as any essential oils, should not be taken internally without the supervision of a health care provider. Highly concentrated frankincense essential oils are toxic to the internal organs and can give rise to unwanted health problems.

When direct skin application is required, make sure to dilute pure essential oil first using a carrier oil and check for possible allergic reactions. A skin patch test is an effective way to check for allergic effects. This is done by putting a small amount of the diluted essential oil at the back of the wrist. Then, wait for several hours for possible skin reactions. It is safe to use when no reactions occur after application.
