Distinguishing Between a Genuine and Knockoff 550 Paracord

From its humble military utility purposes during the World War, it has become one of the most essential tools of the people who belong to the groups being mentioned above. Aside from its strength and lightweight properties , it is now being favored as a material for fashion products too. However, we cannot deny that the most important use of 550 paracord ropes today falls under emergency purposes. Aside from supporting weight, it could also be used for dragging things and securing materials together.

The sad thing is that there is knockoff or fake 550 paracord ropes being sold in the market these days. These appear to be similar in looks with the genuine ones. However, things get ugly when the strength and durability of such materials are tested. The fake ropes could support weight, but of course the tensile strength is much lower than what is supposed to be. This is dangerous most especially when the user plans to use the purchased 550 paracord ropes for heavy duty purposes. The risk is increased when these ropes are used for scenarios that could endanger the life and limb of a user.

Fake ones are obviously softer and easily get loosened up at the cut ends. This is due to the fact that cotton has been used as a material for those strands. Burning the strands could be a good way to tell between fakes and genuine 550 paracord ropes. Fakes catch fire easily while genuine ones have higher resistance to flame.

These are of course things that could be done if a seller will allow a buyer to test the genuineness of their 550 paracord items. Samples should be available for such tests. If no testing is allowed, the seller must be able to produce guarantees of authenticity of the items they are making available for buyers. It would take a bit of effort on the side of the seller to distinguish between genuine and fake 550 paracord ropes. However, when life and limb is being put on the line through the use of such material, the effort is totally worth it!
