The only way to get out of a car submerged underwater quick enough would be to break a car window because trying to open a car door underwater would not be feasible. Trying to roll down the car window using the power button would work for only a few minutes after the car hits the water and the window would probably end up stuck half way. Cranking it open manually would also not work and you would just end up destroying the handle. The only option left would be through breaking open the window.

Breaking a car window can be done using your elbow (if you are strong enough and your elbow is sturdy enough), or you can kick the window open but you would have to get into a lying down position to be able to generate enough force to break the window open with your feet. That's why it's a good idea to always have an emergency tool on hand for just such situations.

The car safety tool could work as an emergency hammer that is strong enough to break a car window with a slight jab at a strategic point on the window, usually near a corner or near the hinges. Extra force can be applied by giving the blunt end of the hammer a sudden push with the palm of your hand. This would be enough to deliver a strong enough blow to break the window. Remember, do this only on windows that are made of tempered glass. This kind of glass will splinter easily if given a strong enough blow using the hammer. Trying to break open the windshield will be futile because windshields are made of laminated glass and will only collapse but will still stay intact and you will still not be able to escape. Car side windows and rear windows are usually made of tempered glass and would break easily when struck by an emergency hammer.

Sometimes, the window may be tinted and this may pose a obstacle in escaping through the window. In this case, use the pointed end of the hammer to punch through the tint. Otherwise, use the tip of your car keys or any other sharp object to pierce the plastic just enough to tear it open so you can create an opening big enough to escape through.

Above all, do not get hysterical. Always keep calm so that you can think clearly about what you have to do. Stay focused on the task at hand. If your car has fallen into the water and has not yet started filling with water, focus on trying to get out. Using your cellphone to call for help will only waste precious time.
