How to Make Custom Roasting Sticks

A lot of people use different kinds of campfire sticks to roast their marshmallows or hotdogs. Some people are accustomed to cutting small branches of trees. Some people use wooden sticks. A lot of people lately are using metal roasting sticks, a new invention made to enjoy camping and roasting more.

Why do a lot of people use a metal roasting stick instead of the traditional wooden ones?

Metal roasting sticks are fully retractable and can be extended up to 31 inches long. The length is perfect to keep away from the fire while roasting your sweet treats.

These sticks are safe even for children. It doesn't have any sharp points but are sturdy at the same time.

- Prepare all the things that you need.
- 1 inch wooden dowel
- Metal skewers
- Paint
- Sponge brushes (or any soft bristled brush)
- Clear wood sealer spray paint
- Gorilla glue
- Painter's tape
- Other decorating supplies of your choice

Using a saw (be careful with this one!) cut the wooden dowel into 6 inches pieces and sand the edges. Drill a small hole of about 1 inch deep at the end of the dowel to fit the metal skewers.

Cut the metal skewers according to your desired length.

This is where the fun starts! Gather all of your painting materials. You can put a tape on the metal skewers to avoid getting any paint on it (kids might accidentally put paint on it). The wooden dowels are easy to paint and design. To avoid the dowel from moving, stick the metal skewer in the ground. Have fun creating your own design! You can put your name, an illustration, and any shapes that you prefer. Here are some decorating ideas:

If you want to create stripes or diagonal swirl lines around the dowel, you can use a painter's tape.

Cut out some vinyl letterings and use a mod podge to stick it to the dowels. You can also create a stencil from the vinyl and paint it (you can use a spray paint since it is easier) on the dowel.

To seal the designs you made on the dowels, finish it off by spraying a coat or two of a clear wood sealer spray paint. Let it dry for about one to two hours.

Before you use your custom made campfire sticks, be sure to burn the ends of the metal skewers in the fire for about 3 to 5 minutes to burn any paint residues.

Lastly, have fun roasting! You can use marshmallows, hotdogs, sausages, s'mores, anything that you prefer!
