49cc scooters are the smallest engine displacement scooters that you can get today. These scooters usually go under the name mopeds too. Now why would anyone get a really small scooter? You'd be surprised at the number of people who have one and the tales they have about their little bikes!
Mopeds are funny in a way because if we were to look back on the history of these bikes, the name is actually a combination of the words motor and pedal, thus you have moped! These 49cc scooters used to have pedals on them. Imagine the looks of surprise and confusion you would get if people saw you riding one today. They'd be left wondering if it's a bicycle with a motor engine or a motorcycle powered by pedals too.
Now mopeds may be small but that doesn't mean these 49cc scooters aren't capable of doing the job! In fact, if you just use it in the city, it'll get you from point A to point B in a jiffy!
Unlike the bikes in the 50cc scooters division, mopeds are almost bare bones stock with little to no flaring panels on them. This helps cut the costs down in production and licensing needs. That doesn't mean it's ugly though.
Mopeds exude a certain air of charm that gives them that type of dignity that only these tiny machines can achieve. A well maintained and cleaned moped is actually a delight to see.
Now don't expect your moped to be all decked out with furnishings you'd find on other scooters. It is marketed as a very basic form of transportation and although it does have some creature comforts, they are very basic and entry level at best. The leather seats that usually come with these machines are good enough to seat two but for maximum efficiency, try driving it without anyone else with you.
Mopeds are very small machines, and the fact that these are 49cc scooters means that the engines attached to these things aren't as fast or powerful as what you'd find on a 50cc or a 150cc scooter. If you can live with that, then owning one won't let you down. Because of the smaller engine displacement, mopeds can be owned by people who belong to the younger generation. A moped usually has a top speed of around 45 kilometers per hour. That's relatively slow for any vehicle but if that was your child driving it, that's considered too fast. It doesn't really matter since mopeds are built to just be driven around the city and aren't fit for the highways.
These 49cc scooters are also quite practical and economical. You can get over a hundred miles per gallon on these bikes. If you really think about it, purchasing one of these bikes will mean it eventually pays for itself over the course of a few months with the fuel economy it gives you!
So the next time you see a moped on the road, try to check out the smile on the driver's face; that's the smile you get when you've got money in your pocket saved because your moped sips gas!
