Gothenburg is the largest city on Sweden's west coast. Its delectable selection of fresh seafood and excellent seaside ambiance leaves any traveler craving for more. A view of the sunset along the coastline is just simply romantic with a rosy hue of the skyline slowly leaving the horizon.

The city of Gothenburg is home to almost 500,000 city dwellers and around 900,000 metropolitan citizens. It is named after the river Göta älv which is located at its mouth and has turned the city into a major trading port. The location of the city has also been its bane in the past as it is strategically critical to any attack made from the North and the South. After many attempts by foreign invaders on settlements in this region, Gothenburg was eventually founded and fortified at the start of the 17th century. Historically, the city has been influenced by the Germans, the Dutch, and the Scottish.

This global city is considered as one of the most innovative cities in the world and has caught the attention of most travel enthusiasts recently. It has been holding most sports events in Sweden like football and ice hockey. Aside from its coastlines, Gothenburg also has numerous ecological parks and other scenic views that have been preserved overtime. These include the Rya Skogs Naturreservat which spans seventeen hectares. This features traces of the wall which was made as a defensive gate during the 17th century. The 137-hectare Slottsskogen serves as an open zoo and has been home to various animals such as seals, penguins, horses, and different species of birds. There is also Hisingsparken, the largest park in Gothenburg.

One can also explore the beauty of the city through island hopping. There are a lot of boats or kayaks available for rent. West Sweden has thousands of islands and rock formations along its seas. Riding an afternoon kayak or a day tour of the islands is a great way to bask in the glory of the coastline.

The Grand Market Hall ("Saluhallen") offers a large gamut of fresh produce and Swedish delicacies. It is nice to spend weekend mornings along the aisles of this busy area. Feskekörka, or "Fish Church" in English, is another well recommended place for an indoor fish market. Seafood is always found fresh as the city is popular for its large lobsters, mackerel, oysters, and shrimp. More culinary delights are offered inland including exquisite cheeses that will go well with vintage wines.

Gothenburg is no stranger to fine dining as restaurants are sprawled all around the city. Several Michelin-star restaurants that will give guests a great dining experience can also be found in the city. Food halls and kiosks that serve seafood delicacies are also scattered everywhere. Tourists can discover a lot of hole in the wall places as they go for a night stroll.

Homegrown shops are also common. Anyone can find all sorts of things in one of these places. From vintage dresses to the most unique tops, just about everything can be found here.

Gothenburg is one stop that all travelers should definitely include in their list when they are in Sweden. With great views, fun activities, and excellent food, it is truly the place to be.
