Light sticks do not only come in different colors, but in various sizes as well. They are usually the preferred backup light source because they are non-toxic, non-flammable, non-sparking and non-radioactive. Their sizes can actually serve as a guide to determine what they can be used for and what advantages or disadvantages they have. Below are their different varieties from the smallest to the biggest.
The Mini
Glowsticks that are about 1.5 inches long and 0.2 inches wide are considered mini versions. usually sold in packs of two, they are advertised as fishing glow sticks. Just as they are short, their glowing time is also brief, around one to two hours only. They will still stay lighted though, just significantly dimmer for several hours afterwards. This type is also usually sold in the form of necklaces, rings and mouthpieces.
The Six Incher
As the name implies, the size of this stick is 6 inches long and 0.39 inch wide. They last the longest among all other types, but they are also slightly more costly. The 6-inch light sticks will glow brightly for around 12 hours, sometimes even longer and grow dimmer as time passes. Because it has a shorter glass shell, it looks as if there is an air bubble inside when really everything is just normal. This also makes this type less flexible, albeit the extended duration of their lighting makes them preferable for outdoor nighttime activities as well as for emergencies and for military use. They also are supplied with connectors wherein strings can be attached.
The Regular Size
The most commonly used glow stick comes in an eight-inch length with the same width as the mini (0.2 inches). Glow sticks bulk is the typical package this normal type is sold -- they come in packs of either 50 or 100. There are also often additional features in these packs such as connectors that can link your light sticks to necklaces or bracelets, or create glowing glasses and glowing bunny ears. They be brightly illuminated for five to six hours and gradually become dimmer until they stop working after two days. The only disadvantage is that they can be quite fragile, activating very easily. They should be handled with utmost care especially since this type is very flexible. twisting it too much might result to puncturing of the tube.
The Longest
Glow sticks that reach to 22 inches are similar to the normal type, only they are much longer. Just the same, they come with connectors that have greater length. Because of their size, they are typically sold as a huge tube necklaces (one end connected to the other). They come in a variety of colors, and they go well with firework displays. Their length, obviously makes them the most expensive among all other types and not very suitable as an emergency or travel light source. The 22 inch type is more often used for entertainment. They are great for parties, nightclubs, carnivals and other fun events.
