Prevents Disease � Certain cuts of meat have to be cooked to exact temperatures to ensure bad bacteria are destroyed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends the use of an internal meat reader to check if the meat is done. Their recommended temperature guidelines are as follows:

Whole cuts of meat (pork, beef, lamb, or veal): 145�F with a 3-minute rest time
Poultry (including ground chicken, turkey, etc.): 165�F
Ground pork, beef, veal, or lamb: 160�F

Prevents Overcooking � You can easily mess up a backyard barbecue or an elegant meal by serving dry, hard, overcooked meat. This can be avoided when you use a meat thermometer. When meat is cooked to the right temperature, it will stay tender and juicy.

Removes the Guesswork � No two slices of meat are exactly the same. If you only rely on cooking time to determine if the meat is properly cooked, then you can have some pieces perfectly cooked and others under or overcooked.

Retains Safe Meat Temperature � You can use an internal meat reader to check that the meat retains a safe temperature if you are serving meat buffet-style. Bacteria can quickly take the meat that starts to cool down as their breeding ground.

Reheats Meat to Safe Temperature � Meats should be reheated to safe temperatures. Often, reheated meats have cold spots or heat unevenly. With the use of an internal meat reader, it helps identify the right temperature.

Digital � Easy to read and can be set for certain cuts of meat
Thermometer with a Timer � Recommended if you need to do something else while cooking

Thermometer Fork � Just like an instant read thermometer but the sensor is enclosed within the fork tines. Its advantage is that the fork can be used to handle the meat, making it great for grilling.
Oven-safe or Microwave-safe � You can put this in the meat before cooking and you can also use it to determine the temperatures of soups or casseroles.

Follow these simple steps to get the most out of your meat thermometer:

Insert the probe in the meat�s thickest part. For instance, place the probe in the inner thigh of a chicken and make sure not to touch the bone.
Use a meat reader when grilling, frying, or baking.
After use, wash the meat thermometer thoroughly using soapy, hot water.
