The world of sports is filled with different betting options to suit the needs of bettors. The basic assumption in sports betting is that there are underdogs and favorites. Ante post betting or futures betting is another option that involves predicting the ultimate champion in a tournament or a race. Ante post literally means �before the post.� This term is derived from horse racing where bets have to be made before the horses are at the �post� and ready to race. However, ante post betting is now offered to different events and sports tournaments. An example of this is predicting the NBA champion before the season starts. Ante post odds provide great rewards for bettors to even out the great risk involved in betting in the future.
There are risks that accompany betting in the future. First, the theory that past performances do not determine future outcomes is true. In other words, a team may be playing well now but that may not be the case after a few months or a year. Second, there are risks associated with uncertainty. An example of this is in horse racing where there is no refund for a bet made on a horse that is injured and is thus not able to compete in the race.
Bookmakers have made it exciting for bettors by offering ante post betting on any sport with a tournament where there is an eventual champion. An example of this is predicting the champion in a tennis tournament such as the U.S Open months or even a year prior to the actual tournament. In some cases, it does not have to be a bet on the champion but can be a bet on an individual receiving a particular award. For example, in basketball, bookmakers have the option of betting on who will be the MVP or even the rookie of the year for the season. The odds are often inflated and are favorable to bettors to balance out the added risk of betting in the future.
