How to Make a Decision about your Life

If your fears are gaining momentum due to your decision-making, you may have trouble realizing it. This is so because you have decided by yourself on the ideas that promise you a happy day. The decision can be undone by simple methods that you can accept.

If you are unwilling to receive because of the fear you have of an answer, then don't even ask a question about your day. You can begin to change your mind with this: "At least I can decide I don't like what I feel now." This much is obvious and paves the way for the next easy step.

By having decided that you don't like the way you feel, what could be easier than telling yourself this: "And so I hope I've been wrong."

This works against the sense of opposition within yourself and reminds you that help is not being thrust upon you, but it is something you need because you don't like the way you feel. This small admission allowing for help will let you go ahead a few more steps. This is no different than asking for a little push.

Now you have reached a turning point, because it has occurred to you that you will gain if what you have decided is not so. Now you know that what you decide on your own may be wrong, and so your happiness does not depend on your being right.

This little bit of wisdom will now take you further. You are not being coerced, but merely hope to get a thing you want. Now you can say in perfect honesty: "I want another way to look at this."

Now you have changed your mind about the day and have remembered what you really want. Its purpose is no longer hidden by the ego-based belief that you want it for the ego-based goal of being right, when you are in error.

Now you know how to be ready, but not in conflict, when you ask for what you want.

The final step is to acknowledge a lack of opposition. You are informing your open mind that you are willing to be shown by saying "Perhaps there is another way to look at this. What can I lose by asking?"

Now you can ask a question that makes sense, and so the answer will make sense as well. Nor will you fight against it.

It is easier to have a happy day if you prevent unhappiness from entering at all. But this takes practice in the ideas that will protect you from fear. When this has been achieved, judgment, forever, has been undone.

But meanwhile, you still have to practice the ideas for its consistent undoing. Now, let's consider once again the very first of the decisions that are offered here.

In my 2nd book of The Master of Everything series, called, Mastering Your Own Spiritual Freedom, we talked about beginning a happy day with the determination not to make decisions by yourself. This seems to be a real decision in itself, and it is. But still, you can't make decisions by yourself. Therefore, what do you choose to make them with?

Whatever you decide—however you decide things—you will not be making these decisions by yourself. A Course in Miracles teaches us how our decisions are either made with idols or with God.

If you make your decision with what you have always idolized, the ego, it will help you to make concrete decisions that turn into confusion. Your day is not random and has already been decided for you. You must face up to this.

Your Friend--the Holy Spirit who resides within you, and has been given to you by God, is by your side for advice, and He knows of your happiness. It is up to you to use His expert guidance, or not. If you do not, your idol, the ego, who is always in fear of something, will continue as it always has.

There is no freedom in a decision you and your idol make. Why? Because it's a decision that is always uncertain. But your Expert Freedom Advisor and Guide—the Holy Spirit within you and outside of you, sets you free.

Also, it is a fact that you and your Advisor must agree on what you want before it can actually happen. It is this agreement that makes all things happen. Nothing can be caused without some form of union, whether with a desire for judgment or the Voice for God--which is the Holy Spirit. Decisions that are caused by you and your Advisor will effect the results you want for yourself, and for the world as well.

When you offer the type of day you want to the world, it will reinforce the idea of the Holy Spirit--your inner Advisor in the world. Think about this, as well as the following question, before you move on with your day, and please keep it in the back of your mind:

Whose world is this for the day you asked for?
