How to Overcome Self-doubts in Article Writing

Have you experienced staring at a blank paper or screen, racking your brain for a word to kick off writing an article? And, when no word comes out for hours, or days you become frustrated and start to have doubts about your ability to write?

When paralyzing self-doubt grips you, get comfort from the fact that many writers have gone through this experience. There may be days when you feel elated with the acceptance of your writing projects, approvals, good reviews, and high ratings.

But, depression replaces elation when your articles receive negative comments from readers. You get discouraged with the return of your work for revision or rejection. Or, you feel hopeless when the written project gets buried with no feedback.

Web content writing requires considerable creativity. It is not surprising that even something relatively small-scale as article writing could make a writer an emotional wreck. When you fall into this crippling self-doubt, know that you can do things to help break the fall.

Plunge into writing again. You must know about cliches, but this you can apply: face your fears. Confronting your fears and doubts and plunging into writing again is the best cure. The completion of the written work, in itself, is already an accomplishment that can cure self-doubt.

Recall achievements. Recall the written projects you did which garnered positive reviews. Remember what it felt like to receive approvals and requests for writing articles. These successes serve as positive reinforcements which will spur your return to article writing once more.

Be a Samaritan to someone. Helping another person makes you feel good. Being a Samaritan can come in many forms, such as helping a friend move to another apartment, assisting someone burdened with grocery bags, listening to a friend's woes, or giving a blanket to a homeless guy. Doing good to others frees you from thinking too much of yourself.

Sublimate doubts. Turn your self-doubts into tools for positive energy. Actors channel their negative experiences into putting life to characters they portray. Use your fears and doubts to put life into your written work. Your emotions are enormous resources for article writing.

Reframe doubt to positivity. View your negative experiences from another perspective. For instance, tell yourself that rejection is an opportunity to improve your article writing skills. Another instance is to change your self-image of a failure into a successful writer. Nourishing your brain with positive images of you as a writer will communicate to your emotions.

Socialize. Writing is a lonely endeavor; it isolates you from people as you pound on your keyboard or play with the pen. Leave your den and talk with other writers. Share your experience and unburden yourself. In return, listen to the other writer's experiences.

Inspire yourself. Find an activity that calms your emotions. Give yourself a break; take a leisurely walk, listen to your favorite classical music or any music you prefer, or read passages from your favorite book. Ideas often surface when the self is calm and relaxed.
Expect your life as a writer to be a cycle. When you begin to accept life's cycles, you prepare yourself against any negative experience. And, with the methods mentioned above, you can overcome self-doubts and become prolific in your article writing.
